发展历史
环球影片公司总部
该公司在30～40年代生产了大量低成本影片，其中大多是、、和。如B.卡洛夫主演的，D.窦萍主演的音乐片，B.阿博和L.卡斯特洛主演的,都有很高的票房价值,赢利颇丰。在它的产品中，像《》(1930)那样的严肃作品极少。
50年代
环球影片公司(16张)
60年代
公司集中全力提供电视片和供电视放映的影片。同时，还把环球城作为的一个旅游中心向旅游者开放而利润倍增。
70年代
70年代摄制了颇有影响的《》(1973)以及该公司历史上获利最多的娱乐影片《鲨腭》（1975，或译《》）。
1999年后
在1999年到2003 年之间环球在国际和国内票房上都取得了不同凡响的成绩比如《》、《》 、《》、 《》 等等，环球出品的DVD如《》、 《》、《》、《》等的销售也列居各之首。2003年的票房收入排在全美第3。

是由著名电影导演与唱片业大亨及前动画大师杰弗里·卡岑伯格于1994年联合创立的，意在建立一个横跨、、及等领域的娱乐帝国。然而，近年来在、及等项目上的投资连遭失败，由此传出了业出身的合伙人之一格芬萌生退意的消息。
